Transparent film dressings are thin sheets of transparent polyurethane (polymer) coated with an adhesive. These dressings are available in a variety of sizes and shapes. Transparent film dressings are clear so you can see the wound through them. This type of dressing is used to protect skin in pressure spots. It can also be used to cover wounds with little or no drainage. It helps keep moisture in the wound to aid healing. Self-adhesive plastic sheet, known in the United Kingdom as sticky-backed plastic, is wide plastic sheet or film with an adhesive layer on one side, used as a surface coating for decorative purposes. Adhesive tape refers to any one of a variety of combinations of backing materials coated with an adhesive. Different backing materials and adhesives can be used depending on the intended use.
