Single-Sided Tape, also known as Single-Coated Tape or Single-Faced Tape, is a pressure-sensitive tape consisting of film, foam, foil, cloth or paper face stock with rubber, acrylic or silicone adhesive on one side, and either has a silicone release liner or is self-wound. Single sided tapes are a pressure-sensitive tape consisting of a carrier with adhesive coated only on one side. Single sided tapes use a backing that may be variety materials that are flat, and web-based such as film, paper, foil, fabrics, or foam. In many instances, the backing is treated with a release coating to enable stable unwinding forces, or with a primer to ensure that the adhesive sticks to the correct side of the backing. Electrical tape (or insulating tape) is a type of pressure-sensitive tape used to insulate electrical wires and other materials that conduct electricity. It can be made of many plastics, but vinyl is most popular, as it stretches well and gives an effective and long lasting insulation. Electrical tape for class H insulation is made of fiberglass cloth. Masking tape, also known as painter’s tape, is a type of pressure-sensitive tape made of a thin and easy-to-tear paper, and an easily released pressure-sensitive adhesive. It is available in a variety of widths. It is used mainly in painting, to mask off areas that should not be painted. The adhesive is the key element to its usefulness, as it allows the tape to be easily removed without leaving residue or damaging the surface to which it is applied. The tape is available in several strengths, rated on a 1–100 scale based on the strength of the adhesive. Most painting operations will require a tape in the 50 range. Household masking tape is made of an even weaker paper and lower-grade adhesive.
